The story (from the official U.S. website):

The Return of the Knight...

As part of their ambition to rule the world, the dark forces of the Demon Realm seek to mix their own blood with that of the royal family. Until now, the legendary knight Arthur has always put a stop to their devious plans. However, the Demon Realm is home to a new ruler, more powerful and more evil than any who has come before him. His underlings waste no time in seeling out the princess - the sole surviving heir to the royal bloodline - in an act that promises dire consequences for us all. The princess is in grave danger... When our intrepid Arthur catches wind of this dastardly plot, he sets off at once to the castle, his steed's hooves beating an ominous chorus.

It's about damn time. No more of this Firebrand or Maximo stuff - Arthur's back! The downside, of course, is that Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins is exclusive to the PSP. While this isn't a bad thing if you own a PSP, it is a bad thing if you prefer to do your gaming on a TV, like myself. It's even worse if you're a fan of 2D gaming, again like myself, knowing that something this awesome is confined to a portable. The same can be said about all of the 2D Castlevania games produced since 2001 as well, including the upcoming (as of March 2007) rerelease/remake of Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo. Sucks, doesn't it?

Knowing this is out there is almost incentive enough to make me break down and buy a PSP... what? Konami put out some great shooter compilations for it too? Damn it. Thanks, Capcom and Konami. My bank account hates you.

Anyway, here's some more info on Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins: UG'NG on Wikipedia.
